Mt Etna Volcano is one of the world's most active volcanoes, and the
most active one in Europe. It has been erupting for several million
years. Mt Etna is one of the greatest and most beautiful volcano
adventure tour destinations in Sicily, beside many other which can be
easily enjoyed from our charming village of Taormina.
The Unknown adventure Etna tour is a different way to explore our volcano and our Island. Starting from your place a drive to the northern side of our volcano, We will first visit the Alcantara Gorges, with their wonderful waterfall created from an old lava eruption. We then continue the drive through Francavilla, stop at the most charming and unspoiled Sicilian village of Castiglione di Sicilia and take a walk to the old Greek fortress to admire an amazing spot with a breathtaking view over the Alcantara valley. We will drive up, passing Linguaglossa village, and arrive at 1.900 mt./ 7.000 ft. level (Etna north/Piano Provenzana) known for the splendid sky area which was involved and destroyed in the 2002 eruption. On the way, we take a 45 minutes walk to the “Fronte Lava” where the 2002 lava flow stopped and almost hit Linguaglossa town. We then visit the "Citelli" refuge for a coup of coffee before we get down the mountain and visit the "Sartorius" craters with a 45 minutes walk through the wonderful Etna national park full of vegetation, pines, birch trees. With a soft hike, we visit these two gorgeous volcanic cones. Driving down we stop and enter to explore the "Grotta del Ladroni", lava cave formed long time ago. (closed walking shoes are required).
